A social care worker has been struck off the register after he was convicted of raping a woman in her own home.
Innocent Megbolu grabbed hold of the woman during the attack in her flat in the Leith area of the city on August 21, 2023, after she had earlier asked him to leave her home.
He was found guilty following a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh and sentenced to five years in prison.
The social care worker was also made subject to a non-harassment order banning him from communicating or approaching the woman for an indefinite period.
Megbolu was placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely and told it is “highly likely” that he will be deported after his sentence.
The Scottish Social Services Council stated that the behaviour “is fundamentally incompatible with
that is expected of registered social service workers”.
The report read: “There are real and ongoing public protection concerns.
“Behaviour of this nature falls far below the standards expected of registered social service workers and is fundamentally incompatible with the standards expected in a caring profession.”
