A ‘soup-er hero’ has been helping vulnerable members of his community amid the coronavirus crisis.
Ray Howe has been making and delivering soup to his elderly neighbours and families in need in Leslie, Fife.
He said: “With the current uncertainty and the government advising vulnerable people to stay home, I would like to help as best I can.
“I am making soup twice a week and delivering enough for three or four bowls of soup, per household, to our elderly or vulnerable families who need it in the Leslie area.”
Mr Howe – who delivers around 50 bowls every Monday and Friday – has welcomed donations of crates of vegetables so as he can continue making his soup.
Mr Howe, who last year was awarded the Leslie Citizen of the Year title along with his wife Christine for their community work, has raised around £40,000 for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) through an annual sponsored walk around the area.
April Davidson, BHF Scotland area fundraising manager, said: “Knowing how committed Ray is to his community, I wasn’t surprised to hear about this fantastic initiative.
“At a time when we’re all pulling together in the face of huge challenges, it’s heartening to hear such a positive story.
“We’re very proud of Ray and Christine and our other volunteers who’re stepping up to help in their communities.”
