A football fan has been arrested after a Hibs player was allegedly racially abused during the Edinburgh Derby at Tynecastle.
The capital’s big two came face-to-face on Boxing Day with Hibs winning 2-1.
Police arrested a 45-year-old man from the home end in connection with alleged racial abuse.
Hibernian substitute Jordan Obita was warming up when the incident is said to have taken place – just after the away side had scored the first goal.
It was revealed at half-time that a fan had been ejected from the stadium and arrested.
Hibs manager David Gray praised the defender for not letting it affect him as he entered play later in the game to help his side secure the three points.
Speaking after the game, Gray said: “There’s no place for it at all and it’s been dealt with.
“The most important thing is Jordan’s been on the pitch and was fantastic when he came on. So it’s about making sure it doesn’t affect people as much as we can.
“As far as I’m concerned, it’s unacceptable.”
A Hearts spokesperson said: “The club condemns racism and any abusive behaviour.
“It will not comment further on an active police matter.”
Hibs later released a statement thanking Hearts for their “swift” response.
“Hibernian FC would like to thank Hearts for the swift action taken against a supporter at Tynecastle during today’s Edinburgh Derby,” it read.
“A supporter was ejected from the stadium and arrested in relation to an alleged incident of racism in the first half.
“Hibernian FC absolutely condemns any form of racism or abusive behaviour. It has no place in the game or society.
“As this is a police matter, the club will make no further comment.”
Police Scotland said a second man was arrested at the match in connection with a pitch incursion.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Two males were arrested in connection with disorder at the Hearts versus Hibernian match at Tynecastle in Edinburgh on Thursday, December 26, 2024.
“A 45-year-old man was arrested in connection with alleged racial abuse and enquiries are ongoing.
