A teenager has been seriously injured after being hit by a tram in Edinburgh.

A 19-year-old woman was struck while on Leith Walk, between Albert Street and Pilrig Street near the Scotmid store, around 8.50am on Sunday.

Emergency services attended the scene, and the teenager was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with serious injuries.

No other injuries were reported.

The road remains closed while the crash investigation work is carried out.

Sergeant Michael Thomson said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and we are asking anyone who can help who has not already spoken to officers to get in touch.

“If you can assist, please call us on 101, quoting incident number 1043 of Sunday, May 24, 2026.”
