Three people are in hospital after a serious crash in the Borders closed a road for hours and left drivers facing a 25-mile diversion.

At around 1.20pm on Tuesday, July 4, a blue Audi A5 and a silver Vauxhall Vivaro van were involved in a collision on the A68 between Soutra and Oxton, near to the junction for Glengelt.

Emergency services including police as well as trauma and special operations response teams from the Scottish Ambulance Service attended.

The drivers of the Audi and the van were taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment, as was the male passenger of the car. 

Their injuries are described as non-life-threatening.

Emergency services closed the road for around four and a half hours as investigation and recovery took place and drivers were diverted for 25 miles.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or saw the vehicles prior to the collision to come forward.

Sergeant Dave Waddell, from the Galashiels Road Policing Unit, said: “Enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the incident are ongoing and we are appealing for any motorists who were in the area, or believes they saw the vehicles involved prior to the crash, to please come forward.

“You can contact police on 101, quoting incident 1531 of July 4, 2023.”
