Two 16-year-old boys arrested by Police Scotland over fire at historic Stirling building Alyn Smith

Two 16-year-old boys have been arrested in connection with a fire at a historic building in Stirling.

Emergency services were called to the B-listed Langgarth House on St Ninian’s Road on Saturday just before 6pm to reports of a blaze.

The abandoned building dates back to 1897 and was formerly used as a council office but it has been empty for 15 years.

Police Scotland said no one was injured but added that extensive enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

Stirling MP Alyn Smith tweeted that the fire is a “sad sight”, while local MSP Evelyn Tweed said it was “terrible” to see the “once beautiful” building on fire.

The council has been trying to sell the building in recent years.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident 2951 of March 30.

Stirling Council said: “Officers from Stirling Council attended with emergency services on Saturday and would ask people to stay away and respect the safety cordon around Langgarth House.

“As this is now the subject of a live police investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.”
