A 12-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl were struck down on Calder Road in Edinburgh on Friday in separate incidents.

Two children were taken to hospital after being struck down by cars just hours apart on the same street in Edinburgh.

On Friday afternoon, a 12-year-old boy was knocked down by a vehicle on Calder Road in the west of the city.

Emergency services were called at around 3.45pm and the schoolboy was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People.

Around three hours later, a teenage girl was hit by a car on the same street.

Police were called to Calder Road again at around 6.50pm and the 13-year-old child was also taken to the Children’s Hospital.

Police Scotland said investigations into both crashes are ongoing. The current condition of the children is unknown.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to a report of a child being hit by a car on Calder Road, Edinburgh around 3.45pm on Friday, June 17, 2022.

“The 12-year-old boy was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People.

“Later, police were called to a report of a 13-year old girl being hit by a car on the same street around 6.50pm.

“She was also taken to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People.

“Enquiries into both incidents are ongoing.”
