Two pensioners pronounced dead after collision at junction

Two pensioners have died following a crash between two cars on the A7.

Police were called to the junction with the B7060, between Galashiels and Selkirk, after receiving reports of a collision between a blue Ford Fiesta and a silver Honda Jazz at around 3.25pm on Saturday.

Emergency services arrived and a 90-year-old man and a 79-year-old woman were pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed while officers carried out investigations and later reopened at around 6.25pm on Saturday.

Police have now launched an appeal for anyone with any information to come forward.

Sergeant Iain McIntyre said: “Our thoughts are with the families of the man and woman who died and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“We are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to get in touch. Anyone with dash-cam footage that could assist with our investigation is also asked to contact us.”
