Motorists have been warned of “heavy congestion” due to a vehicle fire which has closed on lane of a bypass in Edinburgh.
The incident was reported by Traffic Scotland at around 2.40pm on Tuesday on the A720 on the Edinburgh city bypass between the Baberton Junction to Hermiston Gate.
One lane of two heading east has been closed to recover the vehicle with traffic on the M8 also affected.
Traffic Scotland warned drivers of delays of approximately 16 minutes with “heavy” congestion building up.
A post on X read: “Due to an earlier vehicle fire on the A720 congestion in the area remains heavy between the Baberton Junction to Hermiston Gate and on M8 eastbound.”
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 1.53pm on Tuesday, March 26 to reports of a car on fire on the A720 Eastbound between Calder and Baberton.
“Operations Control immediately mobilised two appliances to the scene and firefighters extinguished the fire.
“There were no reported casualties and crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
