A violent rapist who carried out a catalogue of abuse and brutality towards women has been jailed for nine years after putting victims through “a horrific ordeal”.
Kyle MacDonald, 30, subjected victims to physical and sexual violence during repeated offending over a period of years.
MacDonald, formerly of Bathgate, in West Lothian, had denied a series of offences during an earlier trial but was convicted of ten crimes, dating back to 2015.
A judge told him at the High Court in Edinburgh that the jury at his trial had convicted him of “grave and serious charges” which included threatening behaviour, assaults, abuse and multiple rapes.
Judge Thomas Welsh KC pointed out that MacDonald gave evidence in his own defence, but was disbelieved.
The judge said: “According to the criminal justice social work report you continue to deny your guilt and the report also suggests you have shown no remorse and very little insight into the harm your behaviour caused.”
He said the crimes commited by MacDonald could only be described as “a horrific ordeal” for the victims.
The judge said: “The harm which you have done is incalculable and a custodial sentence is inevitable.”
He said MacDonald was assessed as posing a high risk of violence and sexual violence towards women.
The judge ordered that MacDonald should be under supervision for a further three years in the community when he will be on licence and can be returned to prison if he breaches its conditons.
MacDonald perpetrated abuse of victims at locations in West Lothian and Ayrshire up to 2023.
Defence counsel David Taylor recognised that a prison sentence was inevitable but said MacDonald had experienced difficulties during his childhood and was diagnosed with ADHD.
The judge made non harassment orders banning MacDonald from contacting or attempting to contact the three victims and he was placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.
