An infection control team has been mobilised to deal with a coronavirus outbreak at Borders General Hospital.
NHS Borders confirmed there has been eight positive cases among patients on ward seven.
Meanwhile, a “small number” of staff are awaiting Covid test results after showing symptoms of the virus.
The health board’s test and protect team are currently in the process of tracing contacts.
The ward has now been closed to admissions and all but essential visiting has been suspended.
Dr Ed James, consultant microbiologist, said: “A multidisciplinary team has been established to oversee the management of this outbreak and the situation will continue to be reviewed and monitored very closely.”
