Fallen rocks, debris and potentially unstable material will be removed from a Stirling road next month as repair work finally gets under way.

Work is set to start on Greenwood Avenue to clear the area of fallen rocks, debris and potentially unstable material.

Large fallen rocks, debris, vegetation and potentially unstable rocks will be removed from the area as part of the works.

Stirling Council engineers, working alongside SG Access and Fairhurst, will begin work on the site from Monday, March 2.

The work is to remove large fallen rocks and vegetation, whilst also identifying and removing additional loose rock at risk of falling from the slope.

A full closure has been in place at Greenwood Avenue following a rockfall event.

Specialist geotechnical consultants assessed the slope at the time and advised that the path and road at the base of the rockface needed to remain closed, in the interest of public safety, due to the high risk of another rockfall taking place.

Residents and businesses in the area have been advised of the works due to take place, which are estimated to be completed by Friday, March 27.

A temporary barrier will be constructed at the base of the slope with path connections closed to ensure the safety of nearby residents and path users whilst the works are completed.

Assessment following the works will determine if access will be restored to Greenwood Avenue and its immediate surrounding paths.

Environment, Transport and Net Zero Convener, Cllr Alasdair Tollemache, is relieved the work will help remove a “significant safety risk”.

He said: “I’m pleased that work will soon get under way to remove the rockfall which has obstructed vehicles and pedestrians at Greenwood Avenue and its surrounding paths.

“Recent incidents of extreme weather have exposed the risks that rockfall poses towards this area which is a significant safety risk.

“Work to remove debris and other loose rocks is important in ensuring the safety of local road and path users.

“Thank you to everyone for your understanding while this work is taking place.”
