A celebration of Scotland’s unsung creative talents John Byrne Award

Leading Scottish artist and writer John Byrne is set to celebrate the nation’s unsung creative talents.

The John Byrne Award will honour poets, painters, singers, writers, filmmakers and designers with a glittering ceremony at Edinburgh’s Central Hall on Saturday, March 7.

Nine awards will be handed out on the night, with one overall winner taking home the headline prize of £7500.

The criteria are for entries to “challenge and encourage debate on the values which shape society”.

Commenting on the competition, Byrne said: “I think it is very good that such a wide range of creative people are eligible for the awards.

“Hopefully it will encourage those who are unknown to keep going at whatever they are doing.”

Niall Dolan, CEO of The John Byrne Award, added: “The response to this year’s competition has been phenomenal with entries received from every part of Scotland.

“The quality, depth and diversity of work across a breadth of creative mediums is notable.

“Inclusivity is the underpinning ethos of The John Byrne Award and this is clearly resonating with Scotland’s creative community.”

The closing date for entries is January 31.
