Bat Out of Hell: The Musical has returned to Scotland for an eleven-night run in Edinburgh just weeks following the death of the singer whose songs inspired it.
Ahead of their latest live show at the Playhouse, the cast of the legendary musical are dedicating their performance to the memory Meat Loaf and the musical’s creator, Jim Steinman, who also passed away less than a year ago.
Rob Fowler, who plays Falco in the performances that will run until February 19, said: “This is Jim’s baby, he wrote this for a musical piece before Bat Out of Hell became the rock album that everyone knows and loves.”
And Sharon Sexton, who stars as Sloane, said: “It’s so lovely that we get to keep that torch burning because sadly Jim and Meat Loaf have both passed away in the last 12 months, so it is wonderful for us to know that this was his dream and we get to go out and live it every night.
“Probably one of the best rollercoaster rides we have ever been on set to most amazing rock and roll soundtrack, that’s the easiest way to describe it.”
The show tells the story of a young couple’s rebellion to be together and two of its main stars, who play husband and wife, have also found love with each other away from the stage.
Rob, who describes the musical as a rock version of Romeo and Juliet, and co-star Sharon started a relationship after meeting on the show and now they are expecting a little “bat baby” of their own.
Sharon said: “I reckon it’s going to come rocking out to Bat Out of Hell. Its working title is bat baby, that’s what we are calling it right now.
“It’s lovely knowing that they are also part of this journey with us. They are kind of on the road with us and I think it’s only going to give the Bat Out of Hell album even more meaning in our lives now.”
