Billy Connolly made a surprise visit to an East Dunbartonshire café – marking his “yearly” trip to the coffee shop.
Delighted staff at Jessie Biscuit in Milngavie were able to get a picture with The Big Yin when he stopped by on Thursday.
The café, which is a popular destination on Station Road in the town, said Connolly is an annual customer.
Posting the picture to Facebook, the owners said: “When the Legend that is “The Big Yin” aka Sir Billy Connolly comes for his yearly visit!
“Great to see you and thank you!! Team JB”
Many responded to the picture with delight. One person said: “Amazing! Even Billy knows where the best soup in Glasgow is served.”
Another added: “You should have called me I would have been there in a jiffy.”
One unlucky Milngavie worker replied: “Aw no way! I work just over the road, can’t believe I didn’t get to see him.”
Some even shared their own experiences of meeting the comedian: “Met him in Waitrose a few weeks ago and he couldn’t have been any nicer. You worry that meeting a hero could end up disappointing, but not with Billy. It was the highlight of my year! Total legend!”
Earlier this year 79-year-old Connolly received a prestigious BAFTA fellowship award.
The comedian, who has Parkinson’s disease, said: “I am very proud to receive this. Life is good. I haven’t been on the stage for about two years. This is kind of nice. It suits me.
“Symptom spotters among you may notice that my left is different from my right. It is just one of these things. Parkinson’s disease. I suffer badly from the disease.
“My wife puts on my clothes in the morning and takes them off at night. It is a jolly life. I have got no complaints.”
