Cineworld has postponed the reopening of their cinemas until July 31.
The world’s second-largest cinema chain was originally set to open back up in the middle of the month, but it is blaming a delay in new film releases for the change of plan.
Films such as Christopher Nolan’s Tenet and Disney’s Mulan have been pushed back until the end of July.
In Scotland, cinemas can reopen from July 15 as part of the nation’s move out of lockdown.
New safety measures will be in place, including staggered screening times, distanced seating and protective screens for staff at tills.
Mooky Greidinger, Cineworld CEO, said: “Cineworld looks forward to welcoming these moviegoers back to our cinemas next month and believes that they will once again be immersed in the timeless theatrical experience they know and love.”
Vue Cinema will begin reopening in England on July 10 but is “waiting to see the specific government advice” before confirming full plans.
