Millie Gibson has been unveiled as Doctor Who’s companion ahead of the new series featuring Ncuti Gatwa.
The Coronation Street actor will play the character of Ruby Sunday in the show.
Gibson, 18, received the best young performer award at The British Soap Awards earlier this year.
Scottish Bafta winner Ncuti Gatwa was named as the new Doctor Who in May.
The pair will appear for the first time in the BBC sci-fi series in 2023.
It was announced that Gibson would be joining the programme during the live Children In Need appeal on BBC One.
In a statement, Gibson said that she “can’t wait” to get started.
“Whilst still being in total disbelief, I am beyond honoured to be cast at the Doctor’s companion,” she said.
“It is a gift of a role and a dream come true, and I will do everything to try and fill the boots the fellow companions have travelled in before me.
“What better way to do that than being by the fabulous Ncuti Gatwa’s side, I just can’t wait to get started.”
