Dancing Queen Stevie Doc from Glasgow hoping to win prestigious theatre role in Mamma Mia finale

The time has come to shout “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme” the remote and tune in for the grand finale of talent show Mamma Mia: I have a Dream.

Swapping the sunshine of Corfu for the stage of London Novello’s theatre; four finalists will battle it out live to win a part in the west end production of Mamma Mia.

Among them, is Scottish musical theatre graduate Stevie Doc.

The 22-year-old, who attended London’s prestigious Arts Ed drama school, will take on Esme Bowdler in a bid to win the role of Sophie. While she’s been a favourite throughout the series, it seems it’s only now sinking in for Stevie just how far she’s come.

She told STV News: “I never ever would have expected to have gotten to this point. I’m just so grateful.”

The Glaswegian performer impressed the judges week upon week with powerful renditions of the likes of Shallow and All That Jazz, as well captivating acting skills which saw Stevie open up about a difficult period in her life.

After performing a scene with west end legend Mazz Murray, in which they were playing the mother/daughter roles in Mamma Mia, Stevie admitted she found it tough, having lost her own mother when she was just 13-years-old.

Stevie’s mum was her inspiration, lighting up a room and singing and dancing at any given opportunity.

Sadly, she never got to see her daughter on stage but Stevie laughed as she said: “I would be scared to have her at the final watching me perform because she wouldn’t shut up! She’d be like ‘that’s my daughter!’ She’d be so excited. She’d be so proud.’”

That sentiment was echoed by Stevie’s proud dad Gary who said the family have been ‘greetin’ watching her on TV every Sunday.

“Now she’s got to the final, we’re so so incredibly proud of her.”

Gary will join the rest of Stevie’s family in heading to the Novello Theatre on Sunday night to watch his daughter give the performance of her life, but it is sure to be a night of mixed emotions, as fighting back tears he explained: “See what you see on the television, that’s what she has been her entire life.

“It would mean everything to us if she won. More so her mum. She would be incredibly incredibly proud.”

Let’s hope Scots takes a chance on Stevie on Sunday night and vote for our Dancing Queen to win her dream role. Good luck Stevie!
