David Tennant is set to return to the TARDIS to host a special episode of CBeebies Bedtime Story – in character as the Doctor.

Ahead of the 60th anniversary special of Doctor Who, the Scot will read The Back Home by Oliver Jeffers to families across the UK on November 24.

The episode will be broadcast on CBeebies at 6.50pm on Friday and will also be available on BBC iPlayer.

A synopsis of the story reads: “The Way Back Home is a tale all about friendship, adventure and helping others. When a boy discovers an airplane in his closet, he does what any young adventurer would do: He flies it into space!

“Fortunately there’s friendship to be found, and what better way of finding your way back home, than by making a friend?”

The Doctor joins a long list of famous faces who have read a CBeebies Bedtime Story including Tom Hardy, Harry Styles, Guz Khan, Jodi Whittaker, Kate Winslet and Rose Ayling-Ellis.

This comes ahead of Tennant’s highly anticipated return to the role of the Doctor when he arrives on screens on November 25 on BBC One.

The 14th doctor will reunite with his former companion Donna Noble, played Catherine Tate.

The dynamic duo’s return will run across three episodes to commemorate 60 years of the popular show.

The role will then be taken over by fellow Scot Ncuti Gatwa, who will become the 15th Doctor during the 14th series of the show since it’s modern reboot.
