Ewan McGregor ‘thrilled’ to be in Star Wars spin-off series

Ewan McGregor said he is ‘thrilled’ to get another shot at playing Jedi master in Obi-Wan Kenobi in a new Star Wars spin-off series.

The Scots actor was first cast as the young Obi-Wan in 1999’s Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

But he is set to reprise his role in a live-action series for Disney+ set between the end of the prequel and the start of the original trilogy.

There is currently no release date for the series, but McGregor, 49, recently revealed it’s being shot in LA, not England as it was rumoured.

In an interview by comedian Eddie Izzard, the Trainspotting star said filming on the standalone Obi-Wan Kenobi series will start in a few months.

McGregor said: “We start making it in the late spring, and I think we’re going to be shooting it here in LA.

“My dad was sending me links, saying, ‘I thought you were shooting it in LA’ because there’s another tabloid expose that we’re shooting it in some bizarre town somewhere.

“Then we’re meant to be making it in Boston and then we’re meant to be making it, no, it wasn’t Boston, it was Boston, England.

“But we’re not. We’re shooting it in LA. There you have it, folks.”

McGregor said it will be great to play the iconic Jedi master once more, after his last portrayal in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005).

The actor also made voice appearances in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

He said: “It’ll be just great to do it again. I did my last one in 2003, and it’s such a long time ago.

“The idea of doing it again now is just more exciting even than it was then, I think.

“I’m just thrilled to get a chance to play him again.

“I’ve always felt that there was a story about him between my ones and [original Obi-Wan actor] Alec Guinness’s ones, and that’s what we’re going do.”
