The first images from the documentary series detailing the “Wagatha Christie” legal battle have been released.
The Disney+ series gained exclusive access to Rooney, her family, friends and the key players of the case that gripped the country.
Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story will detail how Rooney turned amateur online sleuth to find discover why private stories about her family were appealing in the tabloid press.
The series looks at the circumstances behind her now infamous social media post and her months-long “sting operation” before eventually accusing Rebekah Vardy of leaking “false stories”.
Vardy, the wife of footballer Jamie Vardy, later lost a libel battle against Rooney after a High Court judge found it was “substantially true”.
Rooney, 36, gained the nickname “Wagatha Christie” as a result of the saga while Vardy, 40, maintained she was not responsible for the leaked stories.
The three-part series will also explore how Rooney’s life, and marriage to footballer Wayne Rooney, has played out in public for the last 20 years.
The Disney+ documentary is made by Dorothy Street Pictures and Lorton Entertainment and is directed and produced by Lucy Bowden.
An air date for the series is yet to be announced.
