A trailer for the highly anticipated next instalment of gaming pillar Grand Theft Auto has been released.

After weeks of teasing, Rockstar Games, the studio behind the famous game series, has finally fleshed out what GTA VI will look like.

As it seems to be a bit of fashion with anything to do with the game, the studio’s hands were forced to let the trailer out early after it was leaked.

It marks the first time fans, who, until now, had only rumours and occasional leaks to go by, get an official look at the game in action.

And with the trailer now out, some of the rumours turned out to be true.

Female protagonist

GTA VI will be the first game in the series to have a female protagonist, Lucia.

She is partnered with an unnamed male, and as such, it’s fair to assume gamers will see multiple playable characters just as they did in GTA V with the trio of Trevor, Michael and Franklin.

Return to the iconic location

The game is set in the iconic Vice City, based on real-world Miami.

It marks a return to the area featured in the original Grand Theft Auto, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.

The game will not lack controversy

Ever since the first GTA game, about which questions were asked even in the House of Lords, the series has heavily featured violence, profanities, sexual content, crime, and drugs.

It also provides commentary on a plethora of contemporary political and social issues, often attracting criticism from different parts of society.

And while the trailer reveals only a little about the latter, there is plenty of the former.

The fans will still have to wait a while

It has been ten years since gamers were given a new Grand Theft Auto title.

When GTA V was released in September 2013, it introduced a series of changes from the previous installment, with more playable characters and a larger world to explore with more things for players to do in it.

However, the trailer teases a 2025 release, which means fans will not get their hands on the game any time soon.

Expectations are sky high

At the time of writing, the trailer has already attracted over 58 million views on YouTube.

A simple announcement of the trailer in November received worldwide coverage in mainstream media.

It would be an understatement to say that the expectations that have built up for the game in the last decade run high.

Rockstar Games will, no doubt, want to follow up on the success of their previous titles, namely the widely lauded, detailed, and immersive single-player experience of Red Dead Redemption 2 and the hugely successful online aspect of GTA V, which not only retains players years after the initial release but also keeps the cash flow going.

But the technology has moved on in those last ten years and will move on even further before 2025, so many fans will expect evolution not just in terms of graphics but also gameplay.

However, if Rockstar’s recent record is anything to go by, gamers might be in for a treat.
