In Pictures: Inveraray transformed into 90s set for Netflix series Black Mirror, locals say

A town in Argyll and Bute has undergone a 90s transformation as filming for what is believed to be a Netflix series kicked off this week.

Inveraray’s Main Street was seen boasting pamphlets for boat tours on ‘Loch Henry’, as filming for a reported new season of Netflix’s smash-hit Black Mirror began on Tuesday.

Businesses in the town’s high street were adorned with charming signage and bunting, as vintage cars lined the streets.

Locals took to social media, speculating the filming was for the upcoming season of Black Mirror.

One told STV News she believed film crews were attempting to create “a high street but not a carbon copy of our high street vibe”.

Another local, Bryan Wood, stated that while some locals were aware of what programme it is for, they have been advised not to share this publicly. However, he did that say that “I know it’s for Netflix.”

Netflix itself has not confirmed its role in the production, or that the filming is for the hit Black Mirror series.

The British sci-fi anthology television series was created by Charlie Booker, and first premiered in 2016 – with most episodes set in near-future dystopias with science fiction technology.

The critically-acclaimed series is considered by many reviewers to be one of the best television shows of the decade.

A spokesperson for Argyll and Bute Council refused to confirm or deny Black Mirror claims, however did say that welcoming film crews to Scottish towns can have significant long-term benefits for the economy and tourism.
