Lewis Capaldi has cancelled all his upcoming shows this year, including TRNSMT in Glasgow, to focus on his new album.
The Scottish singer made the announcement on his Twitter page on Friday, saying he had made the decision “with a heavy heart”.
The star was due to close Glasgow music festival TRNSMT in July, but has been replaced by The Chemical Brothers as the event moves to September in a bid to swerve coronavirus restrictions.
However organiser Geoff Ellis said Capaldi had been signed up as a headliner in 2022.
Capaldi said he would try to reschedule the gigs planned for 2021 as soon as possible.
In a Twitter post, he said Covid-19 restrictions had made it difficult to record the follow up to debut album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent.
Released in May 2019, the record stayed at the top of the charts for six weeks and became the top selling album in the UK in 2019 and 2020.
Capaldi, who has won two Brit Awards and was nominated for a Grammy, said he wants to “put all my effort into making the best album I can”.
He wrote: “I really want to make sure that whatever I put out next is the absolute best it can be, partly for my own sanity, cause I’m going to have to sing these songs every night for the next few years on tour but ultimately for all of you who made the first album everything it was.
“Despite having extra time to write, all the Covid restrictions have made it harder to go and record the stuff I’ve been working on or even be around the people I loved working with on the first album.
“For that reason, it is with a heavy heart that I’ve made the difficult decision to reschedule this year’s shows and put all my effort into making the best album I can for you.”
