Lewis Capaldi hopes his ex-girlfriend wins Love Island – but that she should give him a cut of the prize money if she does.
Paige Turley, from West Lothian, is one of a number of single people looking for love on the hit reality television show, which kicked off its first winter series on Sunday.
The 22-year-old has said she could be the subject of chart star Capaldi’s number one hit Someone You Loved.
However, she insisted the pair were “still pals”.
Speaking to New Zealand radio station The Edge, Capaldi said his split with Turley had been amicable.
“I’ve known her for years, 18 when we first met, then 19 when we started going out, 20 when we finished going out. It was very amicable, the split,” he said.
Lewis revealed that Paige hadn’t contacted the singer to tell him she was going on the show, but said he hoped she would win the series.
“She never told me that she was going on it, that would have been a nice heads up but I mean fair play, good luck to her,” he said.
“I’ll be watching it, I’ll be going ‘come on Paige, come on!’.
“When she’s on a date with a boy I’ll be like ‘come on, kiss him!’.
“I hope she wins.”
However, Lewis said that if Paige goes on to scoop the top prize of £50,000, he would want a cut of the prize money.
“The prize is like 50 grand and I’ll be like ‘well, listen they asked you to go on it, I’m not saying I’m the reason but also, slide me two grand’.”
