Scottish star Lewis Capaldi told fans of the pressures he is facing ahead of an early screening of his upcoming Netflix documentary.

The film, which comes out on April 5, documents Capaldi’s struggles with his recent Tourette’s diagnosis as well as his mental health.

At the screening at Glasgow’s Everyman theatre on Thursday, he told friends and fans he was “surprised there’s not a death” at the end when he watched the first draft of the film.

“It’s harrowing, it’s pretty sad, it’s vulnerable – you’ll walk out of here shaken,” the star joked with the audience.

He added: “I didn’t realize how much of my life was consumed by the things that are in this film [anxiety, Tourette’s, stress and depression], and it was weird watching it back and I was like ‘oh, I’m surprised there’s not a death at the end of this’.

“It was a bit of a wake-up call.”

Capaldi added that he was looking forward to his upcoming album and compared it to a “pressure valve releasing”.

“I can’t wait until the album’s out and it feels like a pressure valve has been released a little bit – I feel a bit tense right now because no one has heard it,” he said.

Asked by interviewer Andy Knox if that was the main takeaway of Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now, the singer-songwriter confessed there was “a lot of pressure” on him.

“I’m handling it well, if I may say so myself. It’s exciting though – the album is a big thing and I hope people connect and enjoy it.”

Directed by BAFTA award-winner Joe Pearlman, Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling, will document the singer’s life as he reconnects with family and friends after achieving global success.

Lewis Capaldi: How I'm Feeling Now is out on Netflix on April 5.

Netflix has said the film aims to capture his “defining year” as he struggled to balance the familiarity of being home and a sense of normalcy, alongside skyrocketing to become “one of the biggest stars on the planet”.

It has been co-financed by Quickfire Films and BMG, Capaldi’s long time global music publisher, and produced by Pulse Films.

Independent Entertainment are handling global sales and also serve as executive producers, alongside BMG.

Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now will be available to watch on Netflix globally on Wednesday, April 5.
