Lorraine Kelly's dad dies after being found injured on path near East Kilbride shopping centre

TV presenter Lorraine Kelly has paid tribute to her father following his “shock” death.

John Kelly is reported to have been found injured on a path near St Leonard’s Square shopping centre in East Kilbride around 7am on Saturday amid freezing temperatures.

The 84-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

His death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious by police.

Kelly, 66, confirmed that her father had passed away on a post on social media, adding that he “was in poor health, but his death has still been a shock”.

She said: “Very sad news. My dad has died.

“I am mourning the man who bought me a telescope when I was five years old, who watched the moon landings with me and taught me to always be curious and interested in everything.

“He was in poor health, but it has still been a shock.

“Any of you who have experienced a similar loss will know how my brother Graham and I are feeling.”

She added: “We will miss you dad.”

The presenter, known for hosting her own STV breakfast programme, said the siblings would be taking care of their mother and requested privacy.

Former first minister Nicola Sturgeon, Nigella Lawson, and Ben Shephard were among those to share their condolences.

Kate Garraway commented: “Oh Lorraine – such a hole this has left and what a gift to have shared so much love for so long. Sending thoughts and prayers and love.”

Sports presenter Gabby Logan, whose father, the former footballer Terry Yorath, also died this week, said: “Oh, Lorraine, I am so sorry.”

Police Scotland confirmed a report would be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
