Meghan 'complained to ITV about Piers Morgan'

The Duchess of Sussex formally complained to ITV about Piers Morgan before the presenter quit Good Morning Britain.

Morgan’s departure from GMB came after an on-air row with colleague Alex Beresford who said his comments were “diabolical”.

During the Duke and Duchess’ interview with Oprah Winfrey, which was broadcast on STV on Monday night, Meghan said there were times that she “just didn’t want to be alive anymore”.

She also said a member of Harry’s family had asked “how dark” their son Archie’s skin might be before his birth.

Morgan said: “I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she says. I wouldn’t believe her if she read me a weather report.”

According to the Press Association, the Duchess complained that the TV presenter’s words may affect those dealing their own problems and on the issue of mental health generally.

The former newspaper editor said he had not been “cancelled” and would “re-emerge”.

Speaking outside his home in London, the 55-year-old said: “I think it’s fair to say, although the woke crowd will think that they’ve cancelled me, I think they will be rather disappointed when I re-emerge.

“I would call it a temporary hibernation.”

The broadcast regulator Ofcom received more than 41,000 complaints about Morgan’s remarks on Monday.

In a short statement, ITV said it had accepted his decision.

The statement said: “Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.

“ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”

An Ofcom spokesperson said: “We have launched an investigation into Monday’s episode of Good Morning Britain under our harm and offence rules.”

During Harry and Meghan’s interview with Ms Winfrey, they made a series of shocking revelations including of how a member of the Royal Family raised concerns about “how dark” Archie’s skin might be and how the Duchess felt suicidal after being refused help for her mental health by the institution.

Buckingham Palace responded with a statement on behalf of the Queen.

It read: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning.

“While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”
