A former WWE star has apologised to a member of the Scottish Parliament after he accidentally tagged her as a professional wrestling company on Twitter.
Mick Foley – who has almost two million followers on the social media site – was congratulating fellow wrestling star Paul Wight, known as Big Show, after the latter’s move to rival company All Elite Wrestling (AEW).
However instead of tagging AEW, whose Twitter handle is @AEW, Foley tagged @aewing4Cbeath – the handle for the SNP’s Annabelle Ewing, MSP for Cowdenbeath.
“Wishing the very best to my friend @PaulWight on his signing with @aewing4Cbeath,” tweeted Foley.
“I’m guessing the big fella thought he had done all there was to do in @WWE – and that he still had some gas left in the tank.”
In response, Wight replied: “Love you Mick. Yes, lots left the tank.”
The two posts racked up thousands of likes between them, with hundreds commenting on Ewing’s surprise involvement.
Many created memes augmenting AEW advertisement’s with Ewing’s face – with the tagline “ANNABELLE IS #ALLELITE”.
“Who knew Paul Wight was a Scottish Independence supporter,” commented Twitter user @gkirk1983.
Responding to the confusion, Ewing tweeted: “My twitter page has just got a lot more interesting!”
Realising his mistake, Foley later posted: “My apologies @aewing4Cbeathfor any unwanted attention my last tweet brought you.
“That was my auto correct being far from correct.”
Ewing replied: “No worries. Have had a great laugh tonight. Great to see so many new folk taking an interest in Scottish Indy and my campaign!”
