Music lovers get festival ready as TRNSMT prepares to return to Glasgow Green

Music lovers are counting down the days as TRNSMT, Scotland’s biggest music festival, prepares to return to Glasgow Green.

Around 150,000 festival fans are expected to attend the three-day festival.

Headlined by Liam Gallagher, Gerry Cinnamon and Calvin Harris, TRNSMT is set to take place from Friday, July 12 to Sunday, July 14.

Gallagher will headline the main stage on the festival’s opening day, celebrating 30 years of Oasis’s classic debut album Definitely Maybe by playing every one of its 11 standout tracks.

Other artists scheduled to perform include Scottish-American band Garbage, Mancunian four-piece Courteeners and electronic duo Chase and Status.

Pop girlband Sugababes and ’80s icon Rick Astley are also on the line-up.

Geoff Ellis, festival director, said: “We can’t wait to open the gates on Friday lunchtime.”

He added: “The variety of acts that we have on offer this year is a strong mix of globally renowned names and up-and-coming artists which has resulted in a record-breaking demand for tickets.”

However, amid the excitement, organisers have faced criticism over the lack of female headliners.

This year, only seven out of the 24 acts on the main stage feature women. Despite running since 2017, only one women has been involved in headlining the festival – Pulp keyboardist Candida Doyle in 2023.

Mr Ellis said: “We’d love to have a female headliner. We’ve not achieved it this year, we’ve got that balance across the event itself, but not at the top end and that’s the challenge. We’ll keep trying to improve at that.”

Kat Lingard, head of event operations told STV News: “We have all the favourites – the main stage speaks for itself in terms of the artists we have there, we have the Tuts stage and the Riverside for our grassroots.

“But we’ve added in some more venues and content so we have an over 18s space called the hangout, an area called the secret garden. More than we’ve ever had before.”

Festival goers may have to remember their sun cream, as the weekend is set to be “dry, sunny and warm” according to STV weather presenter Sean Batty.

Fans have also been reminded to remember their ID, to make sure only essential items are in their bags and bring cards as the festival is cashless.

Organisers have also stepped up the ban on disposable vapes as well as flags, glass and selfie-sticks on the site.
