Olivier Awards 2024: Nicole Scherzinger and Dame Arlene Phillips win big

US actress and singer Nicole Scherzinger said that she “was coming for blood” on Broadway

There were wins for Former Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger and Sarah Snook at this year’s Olivier Awards.

The Awards took place at the Royal Albert Hall with a highlights programme following on ITV1.

Accepting her ‘best actress in a musical’ award, Scherzinger joked that she first wanted to “thank god” for stopping her from tripping on the way to accept the gong.

The US actress and singer also said that she “was coming for blood” on Broadway ahead of her taking Sunset Boulevard to New York.

Scherzinger said “thank god for saving me from that trip right there”, before adding that she was “nothing without him”.

The Pussycat Dolls singer also said that “coming from really humble beginnings I always wanted to be a singer and do musicals”.

The 2024 Olivier Awards played host to Hollywood stars and TV actors, with this year’s nominees taking to the competition’s ‘green carpet’.

Other winners included Sarah Snook, who won the best actress Olivier Award for her performance in the one-woman show The Picture Of Dorian Gray.

Dame Arlene Phillips has received a standing ovation following her winning her first competitive Olivier for her choreography on the musical Guys & Dolls.

“I am totally and utterly overwhelmed,” she said following her winning the best theatre choreographer gong.

Dame Arlene, 80, also thanked fellow choreographer James Cousins for helping her by “crawling around” on the floor to demonstrate the movements when she had issues with her knees.

Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham returned to host the event, which saw performances from best new musical nominees including The Little Big Things, Next To Normal, Operation Mincemeat and A Strange Loop, alongside best musical revival nominees Guys & Dolls and Hadestown.

Waddingham opened the event with singer and pianist Joe Stilgoe, and the ceremony’s finale marked the National Theatre’s 60th anniversary.

Presenters for the ceremony included The Morning Show’s Billy Crudup, Carnival Row actress Cara Delevingne, former British Vogue editor Edward Enninful, and Gavin & Stacey actress Ruth Jones.

Goodness Gracious Me star Meera Syal performed the ceremony’s voiceover.
