Keith McIvor, one half of legendary dance duo Optimo, has died two months after revealing he had being diagnosed with an untreatable brain tumour.

Known as JD Twitch, the DJ passed away “peacefully” at The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow on Friday afternoon.

In July, McIvor announced his glioblastoma diagnosis and that his condition had rapidly progressed, affecting his speech, mobility, and independence.

A fundraiser was launched by his wife Marissa, which raised £50,000.

The funds were used for McIvor’s private residential nursing care, additional support services, and essentials for ongoing transport and palliative care.

JG Wilkes announced the passing of his long-time collaborator in a post on Instagram, saying he “changed his life immeasurably” during their 28-year partnership.

He said: “I am forever grateful for everything he bestowed on me, both as a partner in music and as a friend. Keith’s intensity and passion for life, for music, for creativity and for positive change simply never let up. He was formidable.

“His belief in people and the idea that standing together, that our collective strength is powerful was unwavering. I loved him for that.”

Wilkes also thanked staff at the hospice for making “this last while as good as it possibly could be”.

He added: “Keith left us far too soon. He will go now to travel those space-ways but I know his energy remains in every one of us who had the privilege of knowing him. I love you forever Keith.

“All things pass, into the night…”

Tributes have been paid to the DJ, with Lauren Laverne commenting: “Sending you deepest condolences. Thinking of you all and sending so much love xx”

Daniel Markavery added: “He was an all-time great. Together you gave countless people endless hours of joy, excitement and togetherness. That’s not to mention the generations of DJs you inspired.”

Tim Sweeney from Beats in Space said: “Keith was someone we all looked up to. A guiding light. Principals he stood by. Genuine, kind, honest, and real. Rest in peace, Keith.”
