Paolo Nutini to kick off TRNSMT with long-awaited headline show

The Paisley singer will headline the main stage on Friday evening, following an eight year absence.

Paolo Nutini is set to make his return to the music scene as he headlines the first day of TRNSMT on Friday.

Scotland’s biggest music festival will return for its fifth year this weekend and will run from Friday July 8 to Sunday July 10.

Nutini will be joined by Sam Fender, Tom Grennan, Ella Henderson, Luke La Volpe and Callum Beatie on the first day of the three-day festival, which will take over Glasgow Green for the weekend.

The Paisley singer has been absent from the music scene for eight years but returned with a bang in 2022 with his fourth album Last Night in the Bittersweet.

The 35-year-old could be facing a double celebration on Friday as he headlines the main stage at the music festival, as the album is on course for number one.

If it takes the top spot, it will be a hat-trick for the singer, following in the footsteps of chart topping records Sunny Side Up and Caustic Love.

Meanwhile, Saturday will see The Strokes headline the main stage, with acts such as Years and Years, Jimmy Eat World and The Snuts performing on the day.

Lewis Capaldi will close the festival on Sunday after he pulled out of the festival in 2021 to focus on his second album

He will be joined by Wolf Alice, Nina Nesbitt and Sigrid in a bid to close the music festival with a bang.

Festival goers are urged to plan their journey to the site in advance, with the city centre set to be busier than usual as music fans head to Glasgow Green.

ScotRail added there will no trains home following Lewis Capaldi’s closing set on Sunday, due to a temporary timetable put in place following a dispute with train drivers.
