Matt Hancock has spent nearly a week in the Australian jungle being covered in bugs, sifting through livers and eating a camel’s penis.
The former health secretary said he wanted to go on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! to raise awareness of dyslexia after criticism that he was abandoning his constituents by not representing them in the House of Commons or holding surgeries.
While Hancock is unavailable in his West Suffolk constituency, talk show host Piers Morgan has pledged to take his place.
“I’ll be hosting Piers Uncensored tonight from inside Matt Hancock’s local pub, The Cock Inn in Little Thurlow, West Suffolk, and holding a surgery for his local constituents who he’s deserted to eat kangaroo testicles in Australia,” the broadcaster announced on Twitter.
Morgan’s show airs on TalkTV on Tuesday night.
Hancock’s fortunes appeared to turn on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! after being made camp leader.
The public voted on Monday night to spare the former health secretary who had completed six consecutive trials since joining the reality show.
Rishi Sunak said Matt Hancock’s future as an MP will be decided by the voters at the next election.
The Prime Minister declined to call for Mr Hancock to resign his West Suffolk seat but said he was “very disappointed” the MP had chosen to swap his constituency for the Australian jungle to take part in I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
Asked whether Mr Hancock should quit Westminster, the Prime Minister told ITV News: “Matt Hancock is not a Conservative MP, the Chief Whip decided to remove the Conservative whip.
“Ultimately, the question is for his constituents at an election but I think it was right that the Chief Whip removed the conservative whip from Matt Hancock, it’s a decision I support and I was very disappointed that he decided to go on the show.”
In a preview of Tuesday’s episode, Boy George, Babatunde Aleshe and Chris Moyles are standing in a structure dubbed the Angel of Agony that resembles the Angel Of The North sculpture in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear.
Culture Club star Boy George begins chanting while navigating a box full of critters to find a star before handing it to comedian Aleshe, who apologised profusely for dropping it.
Co-host Declan Donnelly says: “Not a great start.”
Boy George continues to chant loudly as he attempts to unravel two further stars in a chamber full of snakes.
Meanwhile, broadcaster Moyles seems agitated by the critters that have fallen on him, saying: “Why did I wear shorts.”
The celebrities are tasked with collecting stars while working as a team in the challenge.
I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! continues on Tuesday, November 15, at 9.15pm on STV.
