Royal Mail releases Rolling Stones stamps to celebrate 60th anniversary

The Royal Mail has released 12 new stamps to celebrate 60 years of legendary rock group The Rolling Stones.

The stamps will pay tribute to the band, which comprises of Sir Mick Jagger, Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards, who formed in London in 1962.

A set of eight stamps feature images of the band performing at various gigs across the world during their six-decade career.

The stamps include shots from gigs in New York in 1972, Tokyo in 1995 and Oslo in 2014.

An image from the band’s 1969’s London Hyde Park show also features in the collection, which was held just two days after the death of founding member Brian Jones.

The free outdoor festival, marketed as The Stones In The Park, saw the live debut of his replacement guitarist, Mick Taylor, who was later replaced by Ronnie Wood.

An additional four stamps, presented in a miniature sheet, feature two shots of the band together alongside two posters promoting tours over the years.

The Rolling Stones have become only the fourth music group to feature in a dedicated stamp issue, following on from The Beatles in 2007, Pink Floyd in 2016 and Queen in 2020.

The collection follows the death of Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, who died in August at the age of 80.

“They have created some of modern music’s most iconic and inspirational albums, with ground-breaking live performances to match.”
