Scottish wrestling champion Nikki A.S.H says she is still on cloud nine following her WWE title win and is living a dream that she hopes never to wake up from.
The Glaswegian brawler gained the Raw Women’s Championship belt after a dramatic win over Charlotte Flair on Monday, 24 hours after she had earned her shot with a ladder match win.
And show she hopes her success will be an inspiration to young girls all over the world and show them that anything is possible.
Speaking to STV News on Friday she said: “It’s not sunk in at all, it just feels so surreal, it just feels like a dream that I hope no one wakes me up from.
“I am on cloud nine, just knowing I have the support of the WWE fans in Scotland and I know I have Scotland behind me, I am just so happy, so so happy.
“I want to show millions of little girls across the world that you can do whatever you want, doctor, nurse, mechanic, Raw women’s champion, Smackdown women’s champion, you know, anything you want to be you can be and I think that is such a huge responsibility that I take seriously and I relish this honour and I’m going to make WWE and the WWE Universe proud.”
It hasn’t been an overnight success story for the 32-year-old, who started off in Scottish based ICW, and she has had to fight all the way to the top for her shot at the big time.
A wrestling fan since the age of ten, Nikki, real name Nicola Glencross, began her journey as a teenager in Glasgow when she joined a wrestling school in 2007.
It was another nine years before she was signed up with WWE after a trial in London in 2016 and another five after that for her first title shot, so she is ready to relish her victory.
She said: “I have worked towards this since I first walked into a wrestling school in Glasgow at 18-years-old, but even further back when I first laid eyes on WWE when I was ten-years-old, so I feel like this is such a celebration of all of that.”
She earned the Money In The Bank title shot against Flair, daughter of wrestling legend Ric, by defeating seven other contestants at a pay-per-view event in Texas on Sunday.
And after waiting most of her life for the chance, she never wasted any time and took her chance at Raw after Flair had been in a gruelling match-up.
The success was made even more special by the fact both wins came in-front of WWE’s first live crowds since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
She said: “Monday just felt like a huge, huge, huge celebration and a big party with the fans.”
Nikki A.S.H, Almost Super Hero, is currently one of three Scots competing at the highest level, with former men’s champion Drew McIntyre and Piper Niven.
