Frightened Rabbit have asked fans to “dust off those photo albums and scour your digital archives” for photographs and videos of the band for a documentary about them and their critically acclaimed second album.
The Scottish band said on Thursday that they had been approached in 2017 by filmmaker William Miller about making a documentary about them and specifically their album The Midnight Organ Fight with a planned release the following year in a ten year anniversary celebration.
However, following the death of lead singer Scott Hutchison in 2018, the plans and “almost everything” was put on hold as they coped with his loss and “in a lot of ways the end of Frightened Rabbit”.
But now, six years later, the conversations have been picked back up and the filmmaker along with the band are now “in the process of making this film a reality”.
In a call to fans to submit “photographs, videos, and anything that captures the magic of Frightened Rabbit and specifically The Midnight Organ Fight era”, the band said: “As with most things we try to do, we want this story to be told from as many perspectives as possible and are keen to create something that feels like it’s from the Frightened Rabbit community as much as it is for it. So we are asking you to share your cherished videos and photos with us to create something truly special together.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s a live performance, a meet and greet, a heartfelt fan tribute, or simply a snapshot of a memorable Frightened Rabbit experience. We want to see Frightened Rabbit through your eyes, or your crap Nokia phone lens (you know who you are).
“Your footage will possibly be featured in the documentary film that we hope will highlight the connections we’ve all had over the years.
“We want this to be a real, honest and true representation of the band over the years and that couldn’t happen without input from the people who were the biggest part of making Frightened Rabbit what it is today.”
Anyone wishing to submit to the documentary is asked to send an email to frabbitfilm@gmail.com along with their name, the location and date of the footage or photo, a brief description of the moment or any personal anecdotes associated with it and are asked In the subject line to include: “Frightened Rabbit Fan Material.”
The band added: “Spread the word among the FR community, and let us create a movie of memories that will honour the enduring legacy of Scott and Frightened Rabbit and what both those things mean to people now and then.”
