Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle has announced her long-awaited comeback following a serious illness three years ago.

The singer, who was catapulted into global stardom after her Britain’s Got Talent audition of “I Dreamed a Dream” in 2009, made the shock announcement on Wednesday.

While celebrating her 64th birthday, she took to social media to tell fans she was “working on some wonderful new projects”, with more information to be revealed soon.

It comes after she exclusively revealed to What’s on Scotland in December that in 2025 she was “gearing up for her busiest year in a long time” following a minor stroke in April 2022.

She said: “Today’s a special day — it’s my birthday!

“But I’ve got something exciting to share… I’m back and working on some wonderful new projects that I can’t wait for you to hear about.

“More news will be coming very soon, but I just wanted to say how much I’ve missed you all.

“Your support means the world to me and I’m more determined and excited than ever.”

The operatic pop singer’s debut album, I Dreamed a Dream, is one of the best-selling albums of the 21st century, selling over ten million copies, while she has overall sold over 25 million records.

The 64-year-old, from Bathgate in West Lothian, only returned to singing lessons as soon as she felt strong enough following her debilitating stroke, determined to get her voice back to the tone that so many fell in love with back in 2009.

Now she’s ready to return to work, including starring in a documentary that serves as a sequel to 2011’s Susan Boyle: An Unlikely Superstar.

The singer also revealed she is due to appear in a cameo role in a new Rupert Everett movie due out later this year, for which she also has recorded a song for.

Boyle also previously revealed there was a drama of her life in the pipeline, admitting she would love to see Oscar-winner Olivia Coleman step into her shoes.
