Taylor Swift fans conned out of thousands in ticket scams for Edinburgh shows

Taylor Swift fans have been conned out of thousands of pounds while trying to buy tickets for her shows in Edinburgh.

Police have warned concert-goers to be “vigilant” when buying tickets for the Murrayfield shows after receiving 16 reports of fraudulent activity in just two weeks.

Incidents have been reported in the Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Lothian and Borders and Lanarkshire areas where people have transferred money for tickets to Swift’s sold-out shows but not received the tickets in return.

Police say they believe over £5,000 has been sent to fraudsters claiming to have tickets with many of the sales taking place on online marketplace platforms.

In a statement posted to social media, Police Scotland have urged buyers to ensure sources are legitimate and check any bank details being provided.

A statement shared on social media adds: “Before purchasing, carefully review the ticket details to ensure their authenticity. Check for accurate event information, including the date, time, and venue. Pay attention to the seating section or assigned seats, which can indicate fraudulent tickets.

“When purchasing tickets online, prioritise secure payment methods to safeguard your financial information. Credit cards and reputable online payment platforms offer additional protection against fraudulent transactions. Avoid paying with cash, wire transfers, or unsecured payment methods.”
