TRNSMT face backlash for lack of diversity in initial line-up

It comes after the Glasgow Green festival announced three male headline acts for the 2024 event.

TRNSMT face backlash for lack of female acts in initial line-up for 2024 music festival TRNSMT

Following the initial TRNSMT 2024 line-up announcement, fans have voiced concerns surrounding the lack of diversity in the festival’s headline acts.

The backlash comes after the festival confirmed an initial line-up of 21 acts set to hit the stage at Glasgow Green next year.

Organisers DF Concerts stated that more acts would be announced in the future, however, many fans were disappointed to find that of the acts announced only six were female.

TRNSMT, which has been running since 2017, has never had a female headliner.

The only woman who has been involved in a headlining act at the festival was Pulp keyboardist Candida Doyle who played the event in 2023.

Many fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express their disappointment with one user, named @schemecracker, called the lack of diversity “shocking” before adding it was a “consistent problem” with the festival.

Another user wrote: “It’s actually wild that in 6 years minus maybe one cancelled for covid, that TRNSMT have NEVER had a female headliner.”

Another used, under the name of Ruth Boyle, responded to the TRNSMT line-up saying: “Women? Never heard of them mate x” which prompted another user to reply with: “we’re going backwards, not forwards”.

X user Bethany also shared: “seeing how many female artists are headlining this festival really highlights how bad the trnsmt lineup is.”

It comes after Glastonbury faced mass backlash for having no female headliners on the main stage at the 2023 festival.

A spokesperson for TRNSMT said: “Our announcement this week is just 21 of around 80 acts across the full bill. We’re still in the process of curating the whole line-up and will have many more updates to share in the coming months.”
