Video of Lin-Manuel Miranda at the Edinburgh Fringe has emerged 20 years after he performed at the world-famous festival as a relative unknown.
The creator of Hamilton, the musical, and songwriter for Disney’s Moana and Encanto was then part of a rap improvisation group, Freestyle Love Supreme.
The troupe appeared on the lunchtime edition of Scotland Today on the August 24, 2005 to promote their Fringe show as part of a segment presented by arts reporter Karen Greenshields.
The footage has been unseen for over 20 years hidden in the STV archives but has now been retrieved from the vaults.
Miranda is thrown the word “chocolate” to rap to while another familiar face to fans of Hamilton – Christopher Jackson who plays George Washington in the original Broadway production and film – manages to include “festival of politics” into some bars.
Last week, Miranda posted on Instagram that performing at the Edinburgh Fringe was the “best summer of our lives”.
Reminiscing about his experience, he wrote: “We had to go out and busk in the streets and earn every audience member and earn every bit of word of mouth. Hope all of you in Edinburgh are having so much fun this August. It goes by QUICK…”
