Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi has launched new music for the first time in three years.
On Monday, Capaldi announced his new single ‘Forget Me’ would be released on Friday, September 9.
It comes after a three-year halt on producing music for the West Lothian hitmaker with his last release in 2019.
Following the announcement of the Queen’s death on Thursday evening, Capaldi opted to tone down his single promotion, but confirmed it would still be released.
In a statement he wrote: “In light of the situation tonight I don’t think its the right time to go overboard on the promotion of my new single, but it’s still coming out at midnight wherever you are. Speak soon x.”
Divinely Inspired to a Hellish Extent, Capaldi’s debut and only album so far, remained at the top of the UK Albums Chart for six weeks and became the UK’s best selling album in 2019 and 2020.
After a social media hiatus of more than a year, the Grammy award-nominee announced Forget Me on September 2, following it up with a clip of him performing a portion of the song at London’s O2 Arena.
In a later post, he lamented stripping down to his briefs for “self-promotion”, tweeting: “Took my clothes off and traumatised the general public all in the name of shameless self promotion.
“Sex sells. New single FORGET ME out the 9th September.”
The new tune comes days after Capaldi revealed he had been diagnosed with Tourette’s, because he didn’t want fans thinking he was “taking cocaine or something”.
He opened up about the diagnosis to his fans during an Instagram live, and revealed he is learning to live with twitches and the condition itself.
The singer revealed to The Sun: “I wanted to speak about it because I didn’t want people to think I was taking cocaine or something.”
The condition causes a person to make involuntary sounds and movements known as tics.
He added: “It is something I am living with. It’s not as bad as it looks.”
Lewis Capaldi’s latest single Forget Me is available on all streaming platforms and for purchase from September 9.
