UPDATE: Motorbike rider killed in A82 crash as police launch investigation

A crash on the A82 Inverness-Fort William route has blocked the road in both directions at Invermoriston, leaving motorists a diversion of up to 120 miles.

Emergency crews including paramedics and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are on the scene after police locked down the road shortly after 12.20pm.

It is unclear exactly how many vehicles are involved at the incident but officers expect the road to be closed for the remainder of the day.

A telephone pole is thought to have been damaged in the crash.

An SFRS spokesperson confirmed two appliances were on the scene in a supporting role.

In order to circumvent the accident location, northbound traffic is being redirected southwards to Spean Bridge, onto the A86 to join the A9 before rejoining the A82.

Southbound vehicles are having to turn back towards Inverness to the A9 south, to take the A86 at Kingussie and follow the route to Spean Bridge.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to reports of crash on the A82 close to Invermoriston at around 12.10pm on Tuesday, July 19.

“Emergency services are in attendance and the road is currently closed with a suitable diversion in place.”
