A9 closed in both directions following 'serious' collision

Drivers have been told to expect delays while an initial investigation takes place.

The A9 has been closed in both directions following a serious collision involving three vehicles.

Emergency services attended the scene of the crash near near the Ralia Junction, close to Newtonmore, at around 1.15pm on Thursday.

Drivers are being urged to use an alternative route if possible.

It is not known at this stage whether there were any injuries as a result of the incident.

A spokesperson for Traffic Scotland said: “The #A9 is currently CLOSED in both directions due to a serious collision.

“Police and Ambulance is currently on scene.

“Traffic is currently stationary on approach, please take care.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware around 12.45pm on Thursday, July 27 of a crash involving three vehicles on the A9 near the Ralia Junction, close to Newtonmore.

“The road is currently closed and emergency services are at the scene.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at around 1pm on Thursday, July 27 to reports of a road traffic collision on the A9, near Newtonmore.

“Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance and one specialist resource to the scene, where firefighters worked to make the area safe before leaving the scene.

“There were no reported casualties.”
