Len Scoullar, Argyll and Bute Council’s Provost, has died after serving his local authority for more than 20 years.
The 81-year-old, who became provost in 2013 and served the area as a councillor since 1999, passed away on Sunday night.
He served both the Bute South ward and the Isle of Bute ward during his tenure as well as owning the Black Bull Inn in Rothesay.
He was also vice-chair or Bute Community Council and chaired the Rothesay Winter Garden Trust.
The council confirmed news of his death on Monday.
He is the second serving Argyll and Bute councillor to pass away in as many months, following the death of Helensburgh and Lomond South councillor Ellen Morton in early October.
Council leader Robin Currie said: “It’s difficult to imagine the council without Len – he served as a councillor for more than 20 years.
“He was devoted to the area, and especially to his beloved Bute where he’d lived for more than 50 years.
“Len worked hard to support our people and communities in various roles, which included speaking up for the future of our islands.
“His genuine wish to help others made him a natural fit for the role of Provost, for which many will remember him most.
“We will miss Len, and send our condolences to his family at this difficult time.”
