Man charged after body of 55-year-old found on road

A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a “suspicious” death in Inverness.

Police were called to reports of an altercation between two men at Black Park in Leachkin Hill Road at around 6pm on Monday.

John Birrell, 55, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been notified.

Detectives are treating the death as suspicious following a post-mortem examination.

Police confirmed a 65-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death.

He is due to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
