An investigation has been launched after a body was found following a fire at a house in the Highlands.

Emergency services were called to a fire at a property on Poldarroch Road in Drumbeg around 4.20pm on Wednesday.

Four fire crews were sent to the scene to extinguish the blaze, and the body of a man was found within.

His next of kin have been made aware.

Police said the death is being treated as unexplained, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Area Commander Michael Humphries said: “We were alerted at 4.03pm on Wednesday, December 11 to reports of a dwelling fire in the village of Drumbeg, Highland.

“Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances to the scene, where firefighters were met by a well-developed fire.

“Crews extinguished the fire and worked to make the area safe.

“Sadly, a man was found to have passed away at the scene. Our thoughts are very much with everyone affected at this difficult time.

“A joint investigation between SFRS and Police Scotland is underway.”
