A body has been found amid a search operation for a missing teenager at a Highlands loch.
Emergency services were called to Lochindorb near Grantown-on-Spey at around 5pm on Thursday following reports of a person in the water.
It’s understood that a group of youngsters were enjoying the sunshine at the loch and may have been paddleboarding at the time of the incident.
SuppliedPolice Scotland has since confirmed that a body has been pulled from the water in Lochindorb. The family of a 17-year-old boy, who was reported to be in difficulty, has been informed.
It is understood he was a pupil at Forres Academy.
Detectives are not treating the death as suspicious.
A spokesperson from the force said: “Around 11.25am on Friday, May 1, a body was recovered from Lochindorb.
“Formal identification has yet to take place but the family of a 17-year-old male youth reported in difficulty in the water around 5pm on Thursday, April 30, are aware.
“The death is not believed to be suspicious, and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
‘Terrible tragedy’
Kathleen Robertson, Moray Council leader, said the death was a ‘terrible tragedy’ and thanked emergency services following the “harrowing” incident.
She said: “It’s a terrible tragedy and on behalf of the council and the local community, I want to express my sincerest condolences to his family and friends. I’d also like to express my gratitude to the emergency services who’ve obviously had a very harrowing experience over the last few hours.”
The local authority is offering support to pupils in the wake of the incident.
