The body of a man discovered at the scene of a crash has been formally identified as that of a missing pensioner from Perth.

At around 1.20pm on September 19, a grey Mercedes B class was discovered having been involved in a collision on the A887 at Invermoriston.

The body of a man was found at the scene, which has now been identified as John Winton McNab.

The 86-year-old was last seen in Perth on September 13.

His family, in a statement released by Police Scotland, said: “We would like to thank everyone involved in the search to trace Winton, these efforts are greatly appreciated by the family.

“We request that our privacy is respected at this sad time.”

A statement by the force said: “The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) has been instructed by Crown Office and the Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) to investigate the death of Mr McNab.

“Its report on the circumstances will be submitted to COPFS at the conclusion of its investigation. Police Scotland has also referred the circumstances to the PIRC.”

Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances and anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police can call 101, quoting reference 1660 of September 18.
