A body has been found in the Cairngorms in search of a missing man who failed to return from skiing alone.

Sam Burns who was reported missing from Aviemore was last in contact with friends around 11.30am on Friday when he was skiing alone in the area.

Officers said the 40-year-old failed to return to his van, which is parked within the Cairngorm Mountain car park.

On Saturday, police confirmed the body of a man was found around 11am.

Formal identification is yet to take place, but the man’s family have been made aware.

Police said there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

A Police Scotland statement read: “Around 11am on Saturday, December 14 2024, the body of a man was found in the Cairngorms.

“Formal identification is yet to take place, but the family of 40-year-old missing man Sam Burns has been informed.

“There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
